We understand that visiting the hospital as a patient or a visitor can be a stressful experience.  Our Goal is to provide the necessary information that will make your visit to Brockville General Hospital as

Accommodations

There are three types of accommodation, which you may request:

  • Ward

  • Semi-Private

  • Private

Please feel free to call our Patient Registration Office to discuss room accommodation and costs - 613-345-5649, ext. 1116 or 1233.

Patient Registration staff will discuss charges with you.  Arrangement for payment may be made in confidence with the Business Office staff. 

Please be advised that due to the high number of insurance companies and types of coverage, it is your responsibility to know about your insurance coverage.  To properly assign your accommodation be sure to bring all information regarding your insurance at the time of your admission or pre-admission.  The Business Office requires this information to bill your insurance company for preferred accommodation; all other charges will be billed directly to you.

The Business Office is open between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday.  Bills are also accepted at our Switchboard after hours and on weekends.

For your convenience bills may be paid by Cash, Personal Cheque, Visa, MasterCard or Interac.

Confidentiality

Following The Public Hospitals Act, information is held in the strictest confidence regarding patients and their families and not  divulged through informal discussion or casual conversations among hospital staff at any time.

Cell Phones

Cellular phones are not allowed to be used within the facility as they interfere with medical equipment.

You may notice hospital staff using phones that resemble cellular phones while you are visiting the hospital.  These telephones that staff are using are specially designed for use within the hospital and will not interfere with medical equipment.

  1. Exit Highway 401 at Stewart Boulevard Exit # 696.
     

  2. Turn right onto Stewart Boulevard to Pearl Street, turn left onto Pearl Street
     

  3. Turn left onto Ormond then right onto Charles St. and follow to parking lot.

Health Records

Release of patient information may be obtained through the Health Records Department.  Normal business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Any member of the general public who is currently a patient in hospital and requests permission to read information from his/her health record may be allowed access to the record provided that it is clearly understood that the record is the property of the Brockville General Hospital; that the director of Health Records is notified of the request and approves; and that the patient's attending physician is notified and can be present at the time the patient reads the record.

Out of country requests for copies of health information for insurance purposes will be handled during normal business hours; providing an authorization for release of patient information has been signed.  An administrative fee for this service payable at the time the hospital bill is paid.

How long are records retained by Brockville General Hospital?

Records that relate to in-patients and outpatients, who are 18 years of age or older, shall be retained for at least 10 years after the date of discharge or death shall be retained by Brockville General Hospital.

Records that relate to inpatients and outpatients, who are under 18 years of age, shall be retained for at least 10 years after the 18th anniversary of their birth.

In the case of charts on deceased persons, the records are kept for 10 years after date of death.

Parking

A public parking lot is located on Hospital property.  The exit fee is $5.00 (subject to change).  The parking machine is located at the main entrance and accepts Canadian coins, $5 bills, and $10 bills.

Security

On site Security personnel is on site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.   You may contact the Security Department at ext. 8331 if you have questions, concerns or to report an incident.

Staff, physicians, volunteers and affiliated outside agencies are required to wear photo identification badges that includes their name and job title at all times while on site.

What to Bring

Please remember that you are responsible to inform family, friends, clergy etc. that you are staying in the hospital.

Be Sure to Bring:

  • Pre-admission package if you have one

  • Health Card and any other insurance coverage

  • Prescription drugs

  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash

  • Soap, powder, shampoo

  • Deodorant, skin creams

  • Sanitary napkins, breast pads, disposable diapers (If required)

  • Underwear

  • Housecoat, slippers, socks and shoes

  • Hair dryer, razor

  • Child's favorite toy or blanket (if required)

  • Easy wear clothing, track suit, shorts, etc.

Please Do Not Bring:

  • Personal electrical appliances (with the exception of hairdryer and razor)

  • Jewellery and / or items of sentimental value

  • Alcohol

  • Non Prescription drugs

  • Other Valuables, credit cards, large sums of money

  • Cellular telephone or scanners

Visiting Hours

  • 1:00pm - 4:00pm

  • 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Nursing personnel monitor our patient's tolerance for visitors and may adjust schedules and routines to meet patient and family needs.  The patient's clinical status and social and emotional needs will be considered in every instance.

Smoking

Smoking is not allowed in the hospital.  Ontario law also requires that there be no smoking within 9 metres (30 feet) of the hospital entrance.  Please refrain from smoking
