B.G.H School of Nursing 1893 - 1974

The first Graduating Class of 1893 with Isobelle Thomas being the first graduate

The school closed in 1974 after 1188 graduates graduated from school

bullet

Gary Yeo was the last Graduate, and was also the first male to enter the school in 1971

bullet

5 males graduated from the school of nursing.

Vera J. Preston (1938) became Director of Nursing in 1949 until her retirement in 1984.

Blanche Easton 1906 became Director of Nursing in North Western Ontario.

Dorothy Barret Maberley, 1943, was the first B.G.H. Graduate to receive a nursing degree in teaching.

We cannot forget those who served in World War 2. As well as nursing sister Mary Nunn, 1906, who went overseas in 1916 and joined the Imperial Service, was honoured with the Royal Red Cross by King George V at Buckingham Palace.

The Alumnae was formed in 1923 under the leadership of Miss Maude Arnold (1909)



Current Information
  Meetings are presently held 6 times per year with Mrs Shirley White Jones, (1957) being the current president. Some Meetings are held in conjunction with social events and are usually the first Monday of every second month.

Current Meeting Schedule

January 5th meeting or Annual meeting at 7 pm.

March 9th meeting and Pot luck Supper at the Executive.

May 11th meeting held at Johnstown United Church from 2 to 4 pm.

June 6th and 7th is Reunion Weekend.

September 14th is the annual picnic to be held at a cottage.

November 9th - to be confirmed.

December - our Christmas Party with Santa.

We send out a newsletter which includes the registration information for our annual reunion as well as informing all members of our activities, and memorials.

We ask only that you maintain your annual membership fees of $10.00 to receive information of these events and to receive our yearly newsletter.
