Volunteer Coordinator Retires after 18 Years’ Service
Brockville—For Brockville General Hospital, it was the end of one era and the start of the next.
Hospital staff and volunteers gathered in the Charles Street site auditorium recently to bid farewell
to the Brockville General Volunteer Association (BGVA) Volunteer Coordinator, Christine Deault.
Deault retired July 29th after over 18 years with the Association.
“I’m a new grandmother,” beams Deault, “and I want to spend more time with my family. It’s been an
amazing 18 years. I’ve had the privilege of working with both the volunteers and the BGH staff—wonderful
people who are tremendously supportive of all the association does, and who are committed to making our
hospital run well. It’s been the best of both worlds, and I feel I’ve truly had the best job at BGH.”
Stepping into Christine’s shoes as Volunteer Coordinator is Cheryl Marshall. Marshall brings five
years’ experience as Executive Director of the Volunteer Bureau of Leeds & Grenville, and more than a
decade in delivery of childcare programs and services locally.
Marshall looks forward to taking the reins as volunteer coordinator with the Association.
"I’m grateful to the BGVA for the wonderful opportunity,” says Marshall. “From the moment I stepped
through the door, I have enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and caring attitudes of the many volunteers
and staff.”
The BGVA is one of the oldest service groups in the Brockville area, having celebrated 120 years of
service in 2009. It is also the fourth oldest hospital auxiliary in Ontario, manned by over 300
volunteers who deliver 2000 hours per month in support of the hospital and its services.
