May Court Club Donates $5000 toward BGH Isotope Indicator

Brockville—The May Court Club of Brockville together with eleven bridge playing groups—coming together under the umbrella name the “Bridge to Health Care” group—have joined forces to donate $5000 toward the Brockville General Hospital’s acquisition of an Isotope Indicator to aid in the assessment of breast cancer.

The May Court Club of Brockville, a registered charitable organization with a membership of 145, is a dedicated group of women volunteering their time providing financial assistance and service to organizations and individuals in need in their community.  Funds are raised principally through the operation of the May Court Thrift Shop located at 40 St. Andrew Street, as well as through annual fundraising events.  During the past 51 years, the club has donated more than $1 million dollars to the community.  The club’s primary focus is assisting seniors, women and children.

May Court’s “Bridge to Health Care” began five years ago from an idea developed by three avid bridge players and long-time May Court members Marg Lochner, Wilma Spracklin and Carroll Hatfield.  Over the years, operating under the Bridge to Health Care name, participants in eleven different bridge groups in Brockville contributed a “loony” each time they played.  Funds were collected and set aside with the goal of helping with the future purchase of a much-needed piece of medical equipment for the Brockville General Hospital.

Gay Brown, President of May Court, is very pleased to see the funds go to the purchase of the Isotope Indicator.

“We think it’s a great cause,” says Brown. “As you know, we support women, children and seniors.”

The Brockville and District Hospital Foundation’s Black and White Gala on September 25th is set to celebrate 125 years for Brockville General Hospital  while raising $50,000 to purchase this state of the art equipment for local cancer patient care.

Breast cancer currently affects one in nine Canadian women, and one in 28 will die from it.

Accepting the generous donation are Marsha Lindsay (far right), Co-Chair of the Black and White Gala Committee; and Joan McLaughlin (far left), Executive Director of the Foundation; from May Court founding members (l – r) Carroll Hatfield, Marg Lochner and Wilma Spracklin; with May Court President Gay Brown.
