Order of the Eastern Star Supports Palliative Care

Brockville—The Florence Nightingale Chapter No. 5 of the Order of the Eastern Star recently donated $1000 to the Brockville and District Hospice Palliative Care Service (B&DHPCS). Pictured is Worthy Patron Gary Mielke, presenting the cheque to (l – r) Joan Schwarze, Charge Nurse Coordinator for the Service; Sherry Anderson, Brockville General Hospital (BGH) Director of Complex Continuing Care, Rehab and Palliative Care; and Joan McLaughlin, Executive Director of the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation.

The Florence Nightingale Chapter is based in Brockville and has over 100 members. Funds are raised each year through events and catering to support local causes, which are chosen by a committee. This year, the Chapter was able to donate $1000 to three worthy causes, including the B&DHPCS that serves all of Leeds and Grenville through BGH.

“Each year we like to give locally,” says Mielke, “and we’re happy to support such a valuable service.”
