Brockville Curves $1200 Donation “Good Fit” for BGH Mammography
Brockville: As part of their annual Breast Cancer Awareness campaign last October, the staff and membership of
Curves in Brockville raised $1215.00—and the donation is going to be a “good fit” for patients using the mammography
unit at Brockville General Hospital (BGH).
“The funds donated by Curves are going toward new, more efficient and far more comfortable hospital jackets for our
patients when having their mammograms,” explains Deb Wilson, Manager of Diagnostic Imaging at BGH. “Regular hospital
gowns are not designed with breast screening in mind, and don’t fit well with the process. The new jackets we’re
ordering with the gift from Curves will be much more comfortable, more private and better designed for having a
mammogram. Having the jackets in hot pink should make it more cheerful, as well.”
The funds were raised at Curves in Brockville throughout the month of October 2011 with extras offered during the
month, such as a silent auction, craft tables, pedicures and manicures—all of which donated all or a percentage to
the fund. This was on top of a month-long special offered by Curves itself.
“Each year, as part of recognizing National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Curves nationally supports the
initiative and locally encourages women to add this to their health awareness,” explains Curves Brockville manager
Lynnsay Villeneuve. “For anyone joining Curves in October, the registration fee is $25.00 and designated to support
Breast Cancer Awareness. Here, we donate the fee locally, directly to the hospital.”
“We’re proud to be able to keep it local,” Villeneuve adds. “This is our third year, and each year we raise more
funds. I think keeping it local gives more incentive to our customers.”
“We’re looking forward to having the new jackets for patients using the Ontario Breast Screening program at BGH,”
says Doris Hallett, Board member for the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation (BDHF). “The new jackets will
make having a mammogram a much more pleasant experience.
“We are very pleased with the continued generosity and support from Curves for our mammography clients,” she adds. “It’s a very good
fit.”
