BGH Achieves 95% Accreditation Results
Brockville: Brockville General Hospital (BGH) recently received the results of its accreditation review from Accreditation
Canada—coming in at a 95% compliance rating.
“We achieved compliance in 1825 criteria of the 1924 criteria we were measured against,” says Ray Marshall, BGH President and
CEO. “That gives us a compliance rating of 95% and we’re very happy about that.”
The last accreditation review for BGH was in 2008, with compliance in 1314 criteria out of a total of 1400 for a rating of
93.5%. Participating in accreditation demonstrates a hospital’s commitment to quality health care—to the community, staff, and
clients. Achieving accreditation also enables hospitals to share information on innovations and Leading
Practices , gauging how they are doing when compared to
other similar health care organizations. During the week of accreditation review, BGH was informed by Accreditation Canada
that its innovative Restorative Care Program was certified as a National Leading Practice.
“Of the criteria that we were not 100% compliant with,” says Marshall, “some related to required organizational practices. As
a result, our accreditation award is Accreditation with Condition. This means that there are a few areas that we need to
improve upon, and then report back to Accreditation Canada in March and September of 2012.
“In all of these areas,” he continues, “we had already flagged them for internal review and improvement. There were no surprises.”
