Tea Fit for a Queen on Gala Auction Block
Brockville—A full “Royal Tea” for eight at the Pine Street Bed and
Breakfast in Brockville is just one tantalizing item on the auction block
during the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation’s Black and White
Gala set for September 25th
Just what makes up a Royal Tea?
“Sandwich Cake, scones, Devonshire Cream, strawberry preserves and Royal
Shortbread,” says Master Chef Michael Dunn, co-owner with wife Francine of
the Pine Street B&B. “And, of course, lots of hot, strong British tea.”
Dunn should know. He spent 16 years as Master Chef with the British Royal
Family, during which time he prepared tea and meals not only for Queen
Elizabeth and crew, but also for royal guests such as Elton John, the
Beatles, and Roy Orbison. And this royal repast is just one of the silent
auction items coming up for bids at the Foundation’s Black and White Gala to
mark 125 years for Brockville General Hospital.
Other goodies up for grabs at the gala include a “Champagne and Chocolate
Tour of the Tackaberry Family Collection”; and a “Getaway for Two in
Gananoque” with theatre tickets for the 1000 Island Playhouse, dinner or spa
treatment, and overnight accommodation at the Gananoque Inn. The bidding war
will heat up as the evening unfolds with an additional live auction,
offering such upscale treats as the one-week rental of a beautiful condo in
Puerto Morelos, Mexico—including air fare.
The Black and White Gala takes place on September 25th at the Brockville
Armouries, beginning at 6:30 p.m., with cuisine stations open at 7:00. The
live and silent auctions will both close by 9:00 p.m., in time for the
dance. Cash, cheque, VISA and Mastercard are accepted for auction items
purchased. Tickets to the gala can be purchased at both Brockville Scotia
Bank locations.
All funds raised by this special evening will go towards the $50,000 the
Foundation hopes to raise for the purchase of an Isotope Indicator—an
important tool in the assessment of breast cancer.
Master Chef Michael Dunn is pleased to have his Royal Tea up for bids toward
such a worthy cause.
“I’ve used the services of Brockville General Hospital a few times over the
years,” he smiles. “It’s good to give back.”
