Shootout raises $50,000 for Brockville General Hospital

Dr. Ardis Lindsay wins finals of 1000 Islands Toyota $1 Million Hole-in-One Shootout

BROCKVILLE – The 1000 Islands Toyota $1 Million Hole-in-One Shootout wrapped up June 21 and was a great success, raising approximately $50,000 for Brockville General Hospital.

Dr. Ardis Lindsay won the shootout finals on Sunday with the closest ball to the flag and took home $1,500 and other prizes, while Bill Jansman took second place ($1,000) and Phil Patterson came in third ($500). All 10 finalists received prizes but no one was able to score a hole-in-one in the finals to win $1 million.

The top 10 also included Robin Gray, Tim Jackson, Mitch Lanctot, Mike Matheson, Bob Peeler, Josh Rupert and Percy Sargent.

"The 1000 Islands Toyota $1 Million Hole-in-One Shootout was a great success this year, thanks to the golfers and all the sponsors,” said Brockville and District Hospital Foundation Executive Director Joan McLaughlin. “We raised $50,000. The community supported this and we look forward to seeing everyone again next year at Sunnidell!”

Rick Walker of 1000 Islands Toyota, the main event sponsor, thanked all the golfers for participating and also thanked Sunnidell for their generosity in hosting the event again this year.

Doris Hallett, Chairperson of the organizing committee, praised the many volunteers who helped run the event during the 10 days. “Without the volunteers, this event would not take place,” she said. “The Brockville General Volunteer Association volunteers and other volunteers very generously come out every year and help to make this a success.”

Ms. McLaughlin noted that the funding will go toward an important cause – BGH’s new cardiovascular centre, which opened on May 4. “The money raised will provide cardiovascular rehabilitation close to home for patients in Leeds and Grenville," she pointed out.

During the 10 shootout days, there were two hole-in-ones, by Gina Raison on Friday, June 19, and Brian Harper on Saturday, June 20. These hole-in-ones earned them prizes donated by the sponsors and a spot in the semi-finals.

The 1000 Islands Toyota $1 Million Hole-in-One Shootout was held at Sunnidell from June 12-21. The semi-finals (100 golfers - top 10 from each day) and finals (10 golfers who qualified from the semifinals) were held Sunday, June 21. New this year was a Kids’ Day Shootout on June 14 which included free instruction clinics and many prizes for the participating children. Nine-year-old Shawn Patterson won a bicycle from Canadian Tire after his ball landed closest to the flag.
