Shootout Supporting BGH

NEWS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, June 8, 2009

Kids’ Day June 14, Ladies’ Day June 15 are featured events at shootout supporting BGH

Try your luck at getting a hole-in-one and you could win prizes

BROCKVILLE – The 1000 Islands Toyota $1 Million Hole-in-One Shootout has introduced a new event: Kids’ Day, in addition to the special Ladies’ Day held each year.

Both events are part of the 10-day golf shootout organized by the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation to raise funds for Brockville General Hospital’s new Cardiovascular Program.

Doris Hallett, chairperson of the organizing committee, expects to see plenty of golfers – including beginner golfers –  at Sunnidell Golf on Sharpe’s Lane in Brockville from June 12 to 21.

“The idea is to win a million dollars. The more times you come and the more times you hit, the closer you get to having a hole-in-one,” Mrs. Hallett says.

“We would really like you to get a hole in one in the finals – you would get $1 million and the hospital would get a $1-million annuity. We would all win!”

Even if you do not reach the finals and hit a hole-in-one, there are plenty of prizes donated by local businesses to be given out during the 10-day event, where buckets of balls cost $10 or $20,

In the finals on June 21, the top three closest to the hole will win $1,500 (first place), $1,000 (second place) or $500 (third place).

In the semi-finals June 21, a hole-in-one will garner cash prizes this year. If you get a hole-in-one on the first ball of the semifinals, you win $25,000; on the second ball, $10,000; or on the third ball, $5,000.

“Golfers with no experience are welcome as well – you may get lucky!” says Mrs. Hallett.

Free golf clinics at Kids’ Day June 14

On Sunday, June 14, children up to age 12 will have a chance to qualify for the Canadian Tire Brockville Kids’ Day finals, during which they could win a $20,000 scholarship if they are lucky enough to get a hole-in-one. Kids’ event buckets of balls cost $5 and $10.

Children can win plenty of other prizes donated by local businesses, and all participants will receive a free lunch and free golf instruction clinics from CPGA instructors. The clinics will be held at 10 a.m. (Short game: Chris Veltkamp), 11:30 a.m. (Irons: Thom Millar) and 1:30 p.m. (Drivers: Bill Minkhorst).

Adults will also be able to participate in the adult event on June 14 – in fact, they can hit every day from June 12-21.

Ladies’ Day June 15

Dreaming of a spa day? There are plenty of wonderful prizes especially for women on Monday, June 15, Ladies’ Day at the Shootout. Ladies’ Day is sponsored by dentist Dr. Barbara Whan and CHUM Radio. Men are welcome that day as well.

Sunnidell helping hospital

The 1000 Islands Toyota $1 Million Hole-in-One Shootout was created six years ago as a way to help support Brockville General Hospital, buying much-needed hospital equipment and supporting special programs to provide outstanding health care at the hospital to Leeds-Grenville residents.

Sunnidell continues to host the Shootout each year. “Without their generosity, there would not be this event,” Mrs. Hallett points out.

She encourages everyone to come out from June 12-21. “Kick off the summer by hitting some balls!”

The hours are: Friday, June 12, 11-8; Saturday, June 13, 11-6; Sunday, June 14, 11-6 (Kids 9-2:45 p.m.); June 15-19, 11-8; Saturday, June 20 11-6; Sunday, June 21, 9-1, followed by semifinals and finals.
