Great Trivia Challenge Marks Seventh Successful Year

Brockville—The Seventh Annual Great Trivia Challenge recently broke last year’s record to raise $4400 at their October 27th event. All proceeds go to support the Brockville and District Hospice Palliative Care Service (BDHPC) at the Brockville General Hospital.

“The funds help provide much needed compassionate care and support to those patients and families who are dealing with terminal illness,” says Event Chair Keith Hare. “That struggle is something that touches everyone in the community.”

Hare speaks from experience. Several years ago, he lost two brothers in the same summer to cancer. Both were helped by the BDHPC service, as were their families. His brothers had good things to say about the palliative care received, says Hare, and as is so often the case, personal experience led him to becoming more involved.

“I started with the Trivia Challenge as a participant,” Hare explains. “The following year I was on the committee and I’ve been chair for the last four years. But it’s certainly a group effort,” he adds. “I’m President of the Volunteer St. Lawrence College Brockville Alumni Branch, and the Alumni host this event each year. Bayshore Home Health is our major sponsor for the Trivia Challenge, and our partnership with them is huge, in terms of sharing the workload. They’re great to work with.”

Along with the $4400, Hare recently presented the BDHPC Service team with a “Great Trivia Challenge” Winners plaque that will display at the Brockville General Hospital’s Garden Street Site. It holds the names of the past winners with room for many years to come.

“The plaque was donated by Bryan Aimer of Trophies Plus,” says Hare. “When it comes to palliative care, the community responds.

“I think we all realize just how important the service really is.”
