Foundation
Celebration in Black and White
Circle September 25th on your calendar for
this once-in-a-lifetime event.
As part of the celebration marking 125 years of
community service for Brockville General Hospital, the Brockville and
District Foundation is hosting a Black and White Benefit Gala on September
25th at the Brockville Armouries. The gala will be a memorable
event, with wonderful cuisine and outstanding musical entertainment.
“Celebrating 125 years is a special milestone for the
hospital,” says Marsha Lindsay, co-chair of the event with her husband Dr.
Ardis Lindsay. “We are set to host a very special evening in honour of that
achievement.”
Of course, as a Foundation event, the Black and White
Gala is aiming to raise funds to purchase hospital equipment—$50,000 for an
Isotope Indicator, an important piece of equipment in the battle against
breast cancer.
“The radioisotope probes will allow our surgical team
to perform sentinel lymph node biopsies when dealing with breast cancers,”
explains Dr. Karim Somani, General Surgeon at BGH. “This is now the standard
of care and allows us to avoid the morbidity associated with a full
auxiliary node dissection. Sentinel nodes make up the initial and primary
drainage site of breast cancers. Therefore, if a cancer were to spread to a
lymph node, they would spread to these nodes first. Identifying these nodes
allows us to more accurately stage the cancer and tailor our therapy.”
Tickets sell for $175 and will be available starting
mid-May through the Foundation. The festivities start at 6:30 p.m. with
cocktails, followed by the food stations at 7:00 p.m. For more information
or to reserve tickets, contact the Foundation at 613-345-4478 or
