Brockville General
Hospital Encouraged by Ministry Commitment
Leeds/Grenville—The
Board of Governors of Brockville General Hospital is encouraged by the
recent commitment by the Honourable Deb Matthews, Minister of Health, to
make a decision on the transfer of Acute Mental Health Services from the
Royal Ottawa Health Care Group to BGH within one month.
“BGH is
committed to assuming the role of providing acute mental health services for
Leeds & Grenville and South Lanark,” states Hugh Bates, Chair of the Board
of Governors. “We have been working with the affected organizations for
years to get to this point, and look forward to a positive response to our
proposal by the Minister. BGH appreciates the strong support of the SE &
Champlain Local Health Integration Networks, and thanks them for their
efforts in getting the issue to this critical decision-making point.”
The
Health Services Restructuring Commission directed the transfer of the acute
mental health services from the Brockville Mental Health Centre Site to
Brockville General Hospital in 1998. Since that time, at least three plans
have been prepared on how the transfer could occur.
The
current plan involves the renovation of the third floor of the Charles
Street Site of BGH to provide accommodations for the acute mental health
services.
