BGH Spiritual Care to Host Information Session on Community Pastoral Care
October 20, 2010
“FROM HOSPITAL TO HOME”
Brockville—The Brockville General Hospital Spiritual Care Department will
host a “lunch and learn” information session on the “Home First” approach on
October 20th. The Brockville Ministerial Association, BGH Spiritual Care
Volunteers, and interested members of the public are invited to attend.
“This is an opportunity to understand why patients are being discharged from
hospital to home more quickly and to explore opportunities for delivering
pastoral care in the community,” explains Janet Stark, BGH Spiritual Care
Coordinator.
Speaking at the lunch will be Heather Crawford, VP Clinical Services and CNE
for BGH, who will explain Patient-Centred Care and a Collaborative Care
Model. Next will be Laurie Dubé, Director of Inpatient Medicine and Surgery
at BGH, to discuss the Home First approach to discharging hospital patients
to home with appropriate care services.
“New programs bring positive changes but also new questions,” says Stark,
“about their impact on spiritual care from hospital to community setting.
How do we equip church pastoral teams and why are they more important than
ever? How can we respect confidentiality and privacy while being effective
within this changing setting of care?”
The “lunch and learn” information session will be held at the BGH Garden
Street Site in the Boardroom from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. The public is invited
to attend and asked to RSVP to Janet Stark at 613-345-5649, ext. 4120 or by
e-mail at staja@bgh-on.ca.
