Here at the Brockville General Hospital we are committed to providing the best and safest care to our patients. We support the provincial government’s new strategy to publicly report eight Patient Safety Indicators to enhance patient safety and strengthen the public’s confidence in our hospitals. Since September 2008 we have been reporting our nosocomial (hospital-acquired infections) rates and number of cases of Clostridium difficile, monthly on our website. Nosocomial rates and number of cases of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) bacteremias are reported on a quarterly basis starting in December 2008. Other indicators coming in April 2009 include ventilator-associated pneumonias (VAP), central line infections (CLI), surgical site infections (SSI) and hand hygiene compliancy rates. Rates are calculated per 1000 patient days. Total patient days represent the sum of the number of days during which services were provided to all inpatients during the given time period. For C.difficile children under one year of age are excluded. These rates can all be accessed by the public on the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care web site at http://www.ontario.ca/patient_safety/. |
