Perquisites
(1)
Verification of English Language Proficiency
·
Applicants must be fluent in English with a TOEFL
computer score of at > 237 or a letter from the Medical School
attesting to proficiency in English.
(2) Letter from the Medical School Under / Post graduate Dean
·
Stating that the student is in good standing at the
University and testifying to the student’s level of training and
abilities
·
Stating that this is an officially sanctioned / approved
clinical elective rotation
·
Identifying the exact dates/ time period of the clinical
elective
·
Identifying a contact person at the University of origin
who is directly responsible for the student during the elective period
and to whom preceptor concerns may be directed as necessary
·
Detailing the clinical learning objectives of the elective
·
Detailing the evaluation criteria (an evaluation tool must
be provided for preceptor to complete and return to the school of origin
at the conclusion of the elective period).
(3) Police Records Check
·
Police Record Check on file at the home institution must
confirm that there are no criminal convictions, no outstanding charges,
and that the person has not been involved in any police incidents
related to the 5 year address history provided by the person.
(4) Liability / Malpractice Insurance
·
a copy of the student’s liability / malpractice insurance
certificate
·
A letter from the insurer that expressly states that

Coverage provided is applicable in Province of Ontario, Canada.

All cases will be assessed and tried in the Province of Ontario

of Personal Health Insurance

Immigration Medical Exam
·
A Canadian Immigration Medical Exam is required for
visiting international students
·
Medical examination requirements for visitors (tourists,
students and temporary foreign workers)
·
Plan to have this exam carried out 2 months in advance of
your elective in order to ensure availability of results
Post Graduate Electives
International Medical Graduates must be registered
with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. See link below.

Note: The Brockville General Hospital, or
the supervising physician(s) reserves the right to cancel / discontinue
the clinical elective rotation at anytime prior to or during the
elective period, should they have any concern re: student competence /
patient safety. The hospital / precepting physicians will not be
responsible for any costs incurred by the student due to cancellation of
the elective.
