Redevelopment sign unveiled at BGH



Celebrating Brockville General Hospital’s Redevelopment Project are Mayor David Henderson, City of Brockville; Steve Clark, MPP; Jim Cooper, Brockville General Hospital, Board of Director, Co-Chair; Nick Vlacholias, Brockville General Hospital, President and CEO; and Chris Salt, Acting Board Chair, South East Local Health Integration Network. 

October 6, 2017 – Brockville, ON – Earlier today Jim Cooper, Brockville General Hospital’s Board of Directors Co-Chair welcomed local dignitaries, including Chris Salt, Acting Board Chair of the South East Local Health Integration Network, Steve Clark MPP, Mayor David Henderson to celebrate the Hospital’s Redevelopment Project.

A letter sent from the Honorable Bob Chiarelli, Minister of Infrastructure, was read by Nick Vlacholias, BGH’s President and CEO.  The statement spoke to the project’s impact on the quality and availability of health care in the local community and the provision of care for generations to come.

The Hospital’s five floor, 175,000 square foot addition will see the transfer of services from BGH’s Garden Street site to a single campus at the Charles Street site.  The build includes an emphasis on patient spaces including the latest hospital design, and environmentally friendly building components.  This includes an increase in Mental Health, Complex Continuing Care, Palliative Care, Rehabilitation and Restorative Care beds. 

Sustaining a strong system of programs and services for the region was the focus of Chris Salt, Acting Board Chair of the South East Local Health Integration Network comments. 

Locally, Cooper shared that community partnerships are core to the Hospital’s expansion. To support the build, which is anticipated to begin in the winter of 2018, the City of Brockville has begun upgrading infrastructure along Bartholomew Street. The City has also promised over $4.7 million dollars for the project, with the Brockville and District Hospital Foundation committing $10 million.
