City work begins in preparation for Hospital build

Beginning August 8, the City of Brockville will be undertaking municipal infrastructure upgrades on Bartholomew Street.  This prepares the area for Brockville General Hospital’s redevelopment project, scheduled to begin this winter.

August 4, 2017 – The City of Brockville is pleased to announce infrastructure upgrades to support Brockville General Hospital’s redevelopment project.

In preparations for the Hospital’s capital project, the City of Brockville will be conducting road and infrastructure work on Bartholomew and Pearl Streets beginning next week.

Effective August 8, Charles Street will be permanently closed from the former Red Cross building eastwards towards Bartholomew Street.  Visitors to the Hospital’s Charles Street site are required to enter via Ormond Street.

Additionally, Bartholomew Street, between the railway tracks and Pearl Street, will be closed from August 8 until October 31, 2017.  This work lays key infrastructure for the Hospital’s new addition, which will be added to the existing site.

In April the City committed $4.7 million towards the Hospital’s redevelopment project.  It is anticipated that, subject to tenders being evaluated by Infrastructure Ontario, Ministry of Health of Long Term Care and BGH, the project’s full construction will begin this winter.

“On behalf of Brockville General Hospital, as we begin a new era of our successful hospital, we are very excited to see these preparations begin for our redevelopment project.  Over the coming years, we will be working closely with the City of Brockville and our building partners to realize our community’s vision of a single campus.  We appreciate that all construction will create change in routines, and will, by times, cause some delays.  We ask that staff and visitors alike put safety first and we ask for patience as we build for the future.”
